More Room for the Good Life: How We Built the Spice Trail New Wing with Everything You Asked for

What makes a place meaningful is not its walls or fixtures. It’s how people feel inside it. If the people in a space feel seen, heard, considered, and understood, then that space becomes a kind of belonging. And that’s the only kind of hospitality we care about.
Over the years, our guests have been very clear about what matters to them: unhurried mornings, time with their folk, damn good food and drinks, spaces where you can be as social or as antisocial as you need to be, and surf that’s close enough to walk to without thinking twice. So when we decided to grow, it wasn’t to ‘scale’ or ‘expand our portfolio’. It was to deepen what already works really well and offer more of what our guests consistently live for. So, this is us announcing our two new buildings, delivering exactly what you love about the good life at the Spice Trail, only better.
This is the story of how we built by paying attention, adjusting to real needs, and creating spaces that enhance the life that’s already happening here. Read on, and see why the Spice Trail Ahangama is worth the visit, whether you’re a regular or joining us for the first time this season.
Built for Belonging
If there’s one thing our guests are wonderfully consistent about, it’s that nobody ever seems to want to leave. They ask to stay longer. They ask to bring more people. They ask if they can ‘just move in for a bit.’ Yeah, we got the hint.
So this expansion wasn’t about adding rooms, it was about adding possibilities to live the Spice Trail life exactly the way our guests want to. Each new space is modular, designed to hold the full spectrum of human behaviour: solitude, celebration, quiet nights, loud families, friends on a getaway, or a couple who booked a private honeymoon stay but now want to host a post-wedding dinner party for all their new travel friends. Life’s like that, isn’t it? Our new units make it possible for our guests to adapt to the serendipitous ways of this island and just belong to a place that responds to their moments.
See, belonging looks different for everyone. Some people need a calm corner to read. Some need a big table for a late-night card game and beers. Some just need a space to decompress after travelling with tiny humans with enormous demands (yes, we see you, we feel you). Our new units are modular containers for all these needs.
Built for Experience
We wanted to improve the places you move through daily, and we knew it was time to rethink how we deliver rest in its most literal form. Yes, Spa Therapy. Our team of certified therapists have been offering surf-recovery massages and reflexology in the privacy of guest rooms. But guests kept hinting at a space wired even more for relaxation, so that’s exactly what we built. Now, Spa Therapy has its own serene corner overlooking the pool, where our therapists offer what can only be described as entry tickets to bliss. Being on the same property makes it dangerously convenient to roll out of your room, float into the spa, and roll straight back into bed or onto a sun lounger.
Southern life has always been simple: people return to their rooms for two things, to rest and to wash off the day. We’ve had the ‘rest’ part mastered for years (with our beds being among the top reasons to return), so we turned our attention to elevating the other half.
The new bathrooms aren’t just bathrooms; they’re spacious showers with wide counters you can actually use and private ensuite gardens that make you question all or any life choices involving high risers or cubicles.
We planted new palms, bamboo, and flowering shrubs around the rooms, so every time you step out or in, you’re met with that lush, tropical abundance the south does so effortlessly. We know how good it feels to have even your nice-to-haves, like nature in sight and grass under feet, carefully considered and brought in.
Built for that Good Life
At the end of the day, everything we built comes back to one simple intention: more room for the good life you already live here. The new wing fits right into the bliss of a Spice Trail day; Kāffi mornings with their too-good coffee, LBK lunches that cruise into sunset cocktails, spa rituals that reset your system, and poolside catch-ups that stretch into late-night swims. With these two new buildings, the Spice Trail has grown just… more itself.
And in true South Coast fashion, the village temple blessed the new spaces before we opened the doors. Now these rooms are officially ready for our people; the familiar faces who return every year, and the ones we’ve yet to meet.
See you soon at Spice Trail, Ahangama.
