How the Spice Trail Good Life Goes Beyond Surf, from In-Resort Fitness, Spa Therapy, Great Entertainment to Damn Good Food

You know those videos where people sum up their holidays in Ahangama or Arugam Bay, where they just wake up, roll into surf, score waves, drink a coconut, watch the sunset and call it a perfect day? There are eighteen hours missing from those videos. And what you do in those eighteen hours when you’re not surfing, or never cared to surf, is just as important in making or breaking your holiday.
A surf town reality we never ignore is that some of you are not here to surf at all. Some just want to relax with frequent dips in the pool, get regular spa treatments to recalibrate their bodies for deep sleep, or get some family time in, celebrate something special with friends, or just explore a new place. That’s why we’ve designed the Spice Trail experience considering surf as one of the many great things available here, and not the singular center.
So, yes, both Ahangama and Arugam Bay make travel top lists for their great waves. But, here’s a whole gamut of other things that make staying at Spice Trail on either of these coasts a top choice.
Damn Good Food with a Side of Entertainment; That’s Half an Actual Perfect Day, Right There
We underestimate how much time we spend deciding what to eat, especially on holiday. Making sure we cover you on the food front with some excellent choices right within the resort, our resident restaurant LBK menu is seasonally updated with new dishes and regular specials to discover. And it’s the kind of menu that fits within the palettes of people from all over, with new twists and takes that honour local farms and foragers. Think spicy miso pork ramen in the same menu as butter chicken or paneer with Romali Roti Thali and cheeseburgers. We even have a kids menu for those stubborn little monkeys who like what they like no matter where in the world.
Extended lunch happy hour means you can decide whether you’re going to be a responsible adult today or not, as early as noon. This is where we often find friends and families spending long hours into the afternoon swapping stories over food, ordering drinks, going for seconds, laughing loud enough to scare crows away, and reconnecting while plopped around a big table or by the pool. Just solid group time, and the LBK space has been designed just for that, surrounded by garden paths and the pool.
LBK in season makes it easy for our guests to stay put rather than wondering where to head next. For our many regulars and returning guests, specials like Sushi Night and BBQ Night allow expanded menus. Some nights are filled with live sounds by local musicians while everyone sits in little pockets, listening with drinks in hand and close conversations. Some nights are for watching a cult classic with the group over dinner. Just regular, ordinary magic that stays with you for years.
And how do you get in on these specials? Our team keeps guests updated through the LBK WhatsApp Community, making it easy to see what's happening before it happens, instead of seeing it on our Instagram the day after. Just ask our resident manager to hook you up.
Missing good sushi because nobody told you about Sushi Night should never have to happen.
Surf Isn’t the Only Way to Stay Fit: Enter East Coast Pool and Gym
As much as we love a good surf, it’s a seasonal party. Six months of the year, surf is iffy on both coasts, south and east. But staying fit shouldn’t be the case. Whether the swell is up or not, whether you feel up for jogging through the tropical heat or not, whether you ever cared for group yoga sessions or not, the option to stretch and exercise well in a private space should be effortless for it to be a holiday you don’t need to recover from. Enter Spice Trail pool and gym. The Spice Trail in Arugam Bay has a pool that allows you to get a few lengths in between ramen and cocktails, and an in-resort gym that lets you melt away your holiday eating guilt in the crisp AC cool.
And while our guests get free and priority access, the pool and gym are also available to those staying nearby. The Arugam Bay pool package is limited to a few walk-in reservations per day, so make sure you book before we run out of slots. The gym is open to our guests, and visitors can get a daily or weekly pass; just speak to our resident manager at the front desk and get your private, air-conditioned gym session locked in.
You can move naturally between your room, the beach, LBK, the pool, the gym, the spa and back again without constantly organizing transport, researching restaurants or wondering what everyone else wants to do. The decisions become smaller; the days become bigger.
Spa Therapy: For Post-Surf Muscles, Haven’t Run in 3 Weeks Muscles, 9-hours at a Desk Muscles, By the Pool All Day Muscles…
You get the gist. The Spa Therapy sessions at the Spice Trail are for everyone. While there are surf recovery sessions, there are also therapies for post-flight recovery, sleep-inducing relaxation, and custom treatments. Our certified therapists will ask you all the right questions so your body gets exactly what it needs.
This season, we introduced some new therapies after listening to what our guests wanted the most: rejuvenating coffee body scrub, skin recovery treatment, and sunburn treatment are all designed from real, recurring requests by people who visit both our coasts, giving practical and pleasurable ways to take care of your skin in saline, tropical weather. A heads up: Spa Therapy is open not just to our guests, so it gets booked out fast. Make sure to inquire and book your slots in advance if you’re serious about your massages; contact our therapists on +94775630808.
To Surf or Not to Surf is a Legit Question at the Spice Trail, Even for Surfers
The Spice Trail is a carefully thought-out basecamp for experiencing Ahangama or Arugam Bay. The in-house restaurant with an active music and specials line-up, a mix-and-match menu liked by everyone, happy hours, pool, gym, spa… none of these are accidental. Every new menu item, treatment, or full-on amenity added to the resort is a result of us constantly listening to what our guests like. It comes down to designing an experience that makes surf accessible, but not the main act. For the Spice Trail, the place is the main act; these towns, the surroundings they offer our guests, the people and the food they make possible, and the ease of experiencing them for our guests.
This is why even die-hard surfers have admitted to entertaining the question whether to surf or not, when they’re at the Spice Trail.
So, sure, come open to surf because it’s a surf town. But stay because you found a place where everything you need has already been thought of and worked into your stay. Get in touch to book your holiday.
